From the bayous of Louisiana to the Central Valley of California to a border town in Texas, this video focuses in-depth on three exceptional educational programs striving to produce biliteracy and reclaim and sustain cultures and heritage languages for the children of their community.
Programs featured are, the state-wide French Immersion program in Louisiana, the district-wide Spanish dual immersion program in Ysleta, Texas, and a community based Cambodian after school program in Fresno, California.
This video illustrates different models of how a community can educate their immigrant and language and cultural minority youth. Each program has changed the lives of many parents, students and community members by making the commitment to connect their youth to their roots. "Filled with examples of excellent programs in the field of first and second language learning for all students, this video demonstrates the perseverance, preparation and knowledge necessary to move communities forward in their pursuit of biliteracy and bilingualism. I was profoundly moved by the dedication of the educators involved in this grand effort."
