| After 23 years of providing leadership to California Tomorrow,, Laurie Olsen retires. Please read her announcement.
It is not easy to leave an organization that has been my passion, my home base, my community, and my work for over two decades. I feel privileged to have been part of the amazing evolution of California Tomorrow from its early days as a young organization trying to figure out which strategies and programmatic approaches would have the most power in moving California towards the inclusive and just society we sought to enact, through to the development and refining of a powerful set of strategies we put to work in multiple sectors and communities throughout California and the nation. It has been gratifying and amazing to see the impact, and personally enriching to come to know the extraordinary people who share the vision and engage in this work. I have grown and learned so much!
I plan to take several months this summer to recuperate from what has been a difficult year for me health wise. Then, in the Fall, I am looking forward to becoming an independent consultant and working at a slower pace on a few selected projects. I plan to continue my focus on immigrant and English Learner education, educational equity, and building a schooling system in this nation that embraces young people for who they are, educating them to live, lead, and thrive in this 21st century global world.
My heart will always be with California Tomorrow, and I hope to remain an advisor to the staff and leadership as they carry the organization forward into the future.
